In addition, Penske published findings from its national Settling In: Consumer Moving Trends Survey, which reveals modern migration trends – a shift in how and why Americans choose where to live, and generational moving decisions.

Penske Truck Rental's 2025 Top Moving Destinations list ():

  • 1.Houston, TX (1)
  • 2.Atlanta, GA (2)
  • 3.San Antonio, TX (3)
  • 4.Charlotte, NC (6)
  • 5.Las Vegas, NV (7)
  • 6.Orlando, FL (5)
  • 7.Austin, TX (9)
  • 8.Dallas, TX (4)
  • 9.Phoenix, AZ (Returned – last ranked in 2021)
  • 10.Tampa, FL (10)

The top three cities are the same as the previous year, signaling southerly migration remains a popular destination for movers, with Houston being the top city for the 5th year in a row. Texas continues to hold dominance on the list with four of the top 10 cities, and Florida represents two cities. Phoenix returns to the list for the first time since 2021, replacing Chicago as a top moving destination.

“The consistency of these rankings year after year suggests that movers have identified cities delivering what they actually want: affordability, community, cultural vibrancy, and opportunity for fresh starts,” said Kevin Malloy, senior vice president of rental at Penske “We’re here to support moving needs with the rental vehicles, supplies and services they need to get off to a great start in their new destinations.”

The Modern Migration: Prioritizing Lifestyle and Well-Being

According to the recent “Settling In” survey, the top reasons why American’s are moving cite wanting a fresh start (41%) and lower cost of living (32%). However, when asked what would matter most if money were no object, priorities shift naming weather (33%) and proximity to loved ones (24%) as primary drivers. Today's movers are prioritizing cities that reflect their values and lifestyle they seek, rather than career-motivated decisions.

The survey also revealed a generational divide when it comes to moving. Forty-five percent of Gen Z respondents have moved in the past five years (compared with 19% of Boomers+). When picking a city, 65% of Gen Z say it's extremely or very important their city aligns with personal values whereas Boomers+ prioritize a city being closer to family (40%). Alternatively, 80% of Gen Z want to live in fun locations where they can pursue their interests, with 69% of Boomers+ relating to this priority.

Paradoxically, while 61% of respondents want vibrant communities with easy access to restaurants and entertainment, 59% simultaneously prioritize quiet communities with a slower pace of life. The top-performing destinations satisfy both: cultural ecosystems paired with accessible, community-oriented neighborhoods.

Additionally, 56% of collective survey respondents report that social media shapes their perceptions of a city, suggesting that destination appeal now includes cultural influence and lifestyle branding.

Penske Logistics Introduces Supply Chain Insight to Empower Smarter, More Resilient Supply Chain Operations/penske-logistics-introduces-supply-chain-insight-to-empower-smarter-more-resilient-supply-chain-operations/

ORLANDO, Fla. – May 4, 2026 – today announced the launch of Supply Chain Insight, a secure technology platform and mobile application that provides its customers with a robust real-time view of their supply chain operations across transportation and warehousing.

Supply chain leaders are under increased pressure to drive greater operational efficiency in the face of rising fuel costs, evolving regulations and economic challenges. Organizations are looking for a competitive edge to navigate uncertain times and achieve measurable cost savings and efficiencies.

Supply Chain Insight is built from the ground up to help simplify and streamline operational data across systems into a single dashboard to allow leaders to manage loads, orders and inventory more effectively with real-time insights for continuous operational improvements. Penske is dedicated to empowering its customers with the right tools to address today’s challenges while future-proofing their operations to achieve long-term growth with measurable impact.

“Our goal with the launch and development of Supply Chain Insight is to help our customers accelerate supply chain performance,” said Jeff Jackson, president of Penske Logistics. “This new platform provides customers with an unprecedented and unified view across their highly complex transportation and warehousing operations. It connects data that is often split across separate systems, giving teams a clearer picture of what’s happening across their supply chain. We plan to continue developing this platform, integrate with other systems and drive further enhancements using AI going forward.”

Supply Chain Insight is built on a modern, cloud-native architecture designed for seamless integration and enterprise scalability. Developed on Microsoft Azure with Snowflake as the core data platform, the system combines secure, scalable and high-performance cloud services to meet the demands of complex logistics networks.

Engineered for reliability and data protection, Supply Chain Insight delivers enterprise security, high availability and strong performance – even while processing vast volumes of operational data – empowering businesses with the visibility and agility required to succeed in today’s market.

By unifying data, intelligence and automation, the platform enables organizations to enhance visibility, improve decision-making and achieve measurable performance gains across their supply chains.

Key Features of Supply Chain Insight

  • End-to-end visibility: A unified data layer connects transportation, warehousing and third-party systems to deliver a complete, real-time view of the supply chain. Customers can proactively manage exceptions, eliminate handoff blind spots and minimize delays caused by fragmented systems.
  • Performance intelligence: Moving beyond “Where is my shipment?” the platform reveals “How is my supply chain performing?” through more than 85+ pre-built and customizable metrics. Leaders can track long-term trends while frontline teams gain operational visibility to address issues as they arise. All within a single platform.
  • AI-powered decisions: An embedded AI assistant enables instant, natural language queries for loads, orders and performance data. No dashboards or analysts required. This capability speeds decision-making and expands access to insights across the organization.
  • Visibility beyond managed operations: Unlike traditional systems, the platform integrates data from external warehouses, carriers and partners to provide a single, comprehensive view of a customer’s full network. The result is greater control, collaboration and optimization across every link in the supply chain.

“Our customers increasingly need greater visibility and more flexible ways to view their operations,” said Mike Medeiros, executive vice president of operations at Penske Logistics. “No two operations run the same, and the way teams use data should reflect that. With Supply Chain Insight, our customers can define the metrics that matter most to their business, set performance thresholds and focus on areas that can drive increased efficiency and results.”

Penske Logistics customers can learn more about the advanced new platform’s capabilities by contacting their account representative or request access at .

Penske Logistics Accelerates Agentic AI Supply Chain Initiative with Augment/newsroom/penske-logistics-expands-ai-visibility/READING, Pa. – Jan. 14, 2026 – Penske Logistics announced it is implementing a new artificial intelligence (AI) platform from following a successful six-month pilot. The new technology supplements Penske’s extensive track and trace capabilities and provides its operating teams with another resource to capture up-to-date freight status information for its customers. The move is designed to improve the ease, speed and visibility of freight across the supply chain for customers and associates, with seamless integration into leading transportation management systems.

“We’re well underway with executing our AI strategy, and our partnership with Augment is one of many AI-related and tech-enabled supply chain initiatives we are implementing to enhance the experience for our customers,” said Jeff Jackson, president of Penske Logistics. “AI at this scale is about giving customers more convenience, certainty and clarity in an increasingly complex and dynamic operating environment.”

In the program’s initial phase, Penske will rely on Augment’s AI teammate to validate the status of an estimated 600,000 loads. The company anticipates seeing as much as a 30 to 40 percent productivity gain as the system eliminates routine, manual processes and enhances follow-up workflows with carrier dispatchers. These capabilities support efficiencies across the supply chain, including inbound loads, middle-mile movements and final delivery, with additional efficiencies as the platform continues to scale.

Augment’s platform complements Penske’s existing freight visibility tools by initiating outreach via a call, email or text when shipment status updates are not otherwise available. The AI teammate connects with each carrier’s dispatch representatives through their preferred means, which has been welcomed by the carrier community. It also dynamically adapts to each trucking carrier’s preferred escalation path and relies on human intervention when needed for exceptions, helping ensure accurate and timely information is reflected in Penske’s systems.

“We’re grateful for the trust Penske has placed in us and proud to partner with a team that understands the AI transformation in logistics is bigger than bolting on another tool—it’s an opportunity to rethink how work gets done,” said Harish Abbott, co-founder and CEO of Augment who previously co-founded Deliverr (acquired by Shopify). “That shift requires a logistics-native approach that works across the systems and channels teams already use, supports nuanced freight workflows end to end, and gets smarter as it learns how the business actually runs. By moving early, Penske is among those setting the pace for the next era of supply chain execution, and we’re excited to build that future together.”

Augment’s AI teammate operates across the full order-to-cash lifecycle of logistics. It understands the context of every shipment, proactively resolves issues, and acts across systems—email, phone, TMS, portals, and chat—to get work done. From quoting and dispatch to tracking, appointment scheduling, document collection, and billing, it is designed to reduce load touches, shorten cycle times, and free up human operators for higher-value work.

Augment is the AI productivity platform for logistics. Its flagship product, Augie, is a freight-native AI teammate that works across phone, email, portals, and systems to automate and streamline the most complex logistics workflows—supporting brokers, carriers, and other logistics service providers from order to cash. Penske Spotlights Maintenance Team Excellence at 2025 Tech Showdown/penske-spotlights-maintenance-team-excellence-at-2025-tech-showdown/

READING, Pa., (July 14, 2025) – Penske Truck Leasing recognized 44 of its top maintenance professionals during the 2025 National Tech Showdown, held June 12 at the Team Penske race shop in Mooresville, North Carolina. The internal competition brought together nearly 3,000 technicians and customer service representatives from across the United States and Canada for a series of timed exams, skilled challenges and diagnostic tasks.

This year’s event marked several milestones: female technicians competing in the finals for the first time, the return of seven 2023 national finalists and the largest prize pool in Tech Showdown history. Associates competed in one of two tracks: Tech Pro, for Tech I and Tech II associates, and Preventive Maintenance (PM) Plus, for Tech III associates and Customer Service Representatives. Each was designed to test bumper-to-bumper knowledge across all major brands in Penske’s fleet.

Conner Fletcher earned first place in Tech Pro after competing against 25 other national finalists. Erick Mckenzie placed first in the PM Plus, topping a field of 17 other competitors. Each finalist completed both a 25-minute online exam and a one-hour hands-on assessment designed to test critical thinking, technical depth, and on-the-job decision-making.

“The Tech Showdown is a reflection of the discipline and expertise our maintenance teams bring to work every day,” said Art Vallely, president of Penske Truck Leasing. “It’s an opportunity to recognize the precision and focus that keep our customers moving and our operations strong. They are the best in the business!”

This year’s top finishers also included:

Tech Pro

  • 2nd: Brian Reynolds, of Parkersburg, West Virginia
  • 3rd: Todd Wilcox, of Mobile, Alabama

PM Plus

  • 2nd: Dhruv Rana, of Kearny, New Jersey
  • 3rd: Cody Allen, of Kansas City, Missouri

“This competition is built to reflect the grit, pressure and real-world challenges our teams face,” said Holly Gerke, vice president of maintenance development and technical training. “These finalists have trained, adapted and executed with accuracy. It shows the strength of their preparation and the value of continued learning across our organization.”

The 2025 Tech Showdown followed eight weeks of district and area-level competitions. At each stage participants completed online and hands-on exams, earning escalating monetary awards and the opportunity to represent their locations on the national stage. The national finalists earned the highest-level recognition and awards offered through the program.

Penske’s investment in Tech Showdown is part of a broader commitment to training, recognition and career development for its 11,500-plus maintenance associates across North America.

Penske Logistics Presents: New State of Logistics Report Highlights Navigating the Fog of Global Commerce/newsroom/penske-logistics-presents-new-state-of-logistics-report/NEW YORK, June 3, 2025 – The (CSCMP) has released the findings of its annual State of Logistics Report. The longstanding report indicates that businesses continue to navigate through a fog of supply chain and economic uncertainty. What is true today may not be true tomorrow in this rapidly changing landscape.

Created annually for CSCMP by global consulting firm and presented by , this publication offers to the industry a close-up of the American economy through the lens of the logistics sector.

The report further suggests ongoing fragile business optimism driven by fluctuating demand, emerging technological disruptions, and a renewed need for resilience and agility.

Notable trends and statistics include:

  • U.S. business logistics costs are $2.58 trillion, which amounts to 8.8% of the national GDP. Last year, the numbers were $2.45 trillion and 8.8% respectively.
  • The logistics industry in 2024 saw a return to pre-pandemic patterns in some areas, but was also marked by flat business volumes, excess truck capacity and rising operational costs.
  • E-commerce continues to move along at a brisk pace, with global online retail sales nearing $6.3 trillion, resulting in more efficient last-mile delivery, increasingly agile warehousing, and a stronger demand for air freight.
  • Geopolitical tensions, combined with proposed and enacted tariffs, and shifting trade regulations around the world, have combined to increase transit times, capacity constraints, rate volatility in ocean freight (leading to longer home package delivery times and delays), and a greater reliance from third-party logistics providers to deliver end-to-end support.
  • Mexico overtook China as the United States’ largest trading partner in 2024. Transactions between the U.S. and Mexico topped at a record $840 billion, a 6% year-over-year improvement.
  • Technology investment continues to be an essential component of the modern supply chain. Data analytics, artificial intelligence as well as robotics and automation are among the headliners supply chain leaders are working on.

Mark Baxa, CSCMP president and CEO stated: “Today’s logistics leaders are operating in a world of rapid shifts and persistent uncertainty—a true fog of global commerce. This year’s State of Logistics Report helps supply chain professionals cut through that fog with insight, data, and direction. It highlights not only the challenges of disrupted trade flows, evolving customer expectations, and constrained capacity, but also the resilience and innovation reshaping the logistics landscape. At CSCMP, we’re proud to provide this essential industry benchmark, empowering leaders to navigate complexity and chart a confident course forward.”

Korhan Acar, Kearney partner and lead author for the State of Logistics Report, shared: “As the fog thickens, the logistics industry must move beyond short-term fixes and fundamentally rethink resilience—not as a luxury, but as a strategic imperative embedded in networks, technology, and decision-making. In a world defined by disruption, resilience is what ensures continuity, enabling agility and long-term durability. And as AI and automation drive down the cost of building resilient supply chains, the greater risk now lies in standing still.”

Andy Moses, senior vice president of solutions and sales strategy, Penske Logistics remarked: “There is a great deal of quality content in this year’s State of Logistics Report. Each day, we are helping our customers find resiliency in their supply chains, as we leverage best-in-class technology and amass capacity on a flexible basis as needed.”

Penske’s Catalyst AI Powers Innovative New Era of Fleet Intelligence/newsroom/archive/penskes-catalyst-ai-powers-innovative-new-era-of-fleet-intelligence/

Summary Bullets

  • Penske delivers a new level of AI-powered fleet intelligence—unmatched in scope, scale, and actionable insights.
  • Developed in-house, Catalyst AI applies proprietary models that transform complexity into competitive advantage.
  • Catalyst AI advances from fleet-level visibility to granular insights—enabling real-time benchmarking and diagnostics now at the individual vehicle and hub level.
  • 93% of leaders believe AI can improve resiliency—but 84% say the industry is behind, signaling urgency for adoption.

Reading, Pa., May 12, 2025 – Today, Penske Truck Leasing introduced the new generation of fleet intelligence with the latest release of Catalyst AI™, its proprietary artificial intelligence engine and industry leading AI platform that redefined fleet management. Built specifically for commercial transportation, Catalyst AI applies machine learning in advanced methods—turning one of the industry’s richest vehicle data sets into faster, more strategic decision-making across operations.

Catalyst AI was built to meet a fundamental need in modern operations: how to take the right action, at the right time, from the right data. The update introduces four core enhancements designed to make that possible:

  • Fantasy Fleet – Offers a new comparison set made up of top-performing vehicles most similar to each vehicle in the user’s fleet—helping them find gaps and elevate performance.
  • Vehicle-level Comparison – Enables users to compare individual vehicles to pinpoint performance differences, helping identify where targeted adjustments can drive better results.
  • Hub-level Comparison Allows users to assess operations by location and uncover opportunities for improved efficiency at the local level.
  • Impacting Metrics Gives users the ability to focus on specific metrics that matter most to their business—fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, utilization, and more.

“The new release marks a next chapter for Catalyst AI—one that makes complex data more usable, more scalable, and more actionable,” said Art Vallely, president of Penske Truck Leasing. “We’ve enhanced the platform’s ability to surface trends, benchmark at the vehicle level, and identify meaningful outliers across fleets and facilities. Built in-house, the platform was designed to help our customers spend less time chasing data and more time improving performance."

Catalyst AI continues to evolve in step with the complexities of modern fleet operations, delivering faster insights, clearer benchmarks, and intelligence designed to keep businesses ahead. Developed by Penske, the platform reflects what today’s fleet professionals need: trusted insights that drive action.

That demand is reflected in Penske’s 2025 Transportation Leaders Survey: A Road to AI Adoption, which found that 93% of senior business decision makers in the transportation and logistics industry agree that AI will improve their organization’s resiliency and ability to adapt to sudden shifts. More than half (54%) said the ability to compare their fleet’s performance to others in the same market would improve both efficiency and operational decision-making. As they specifically plan for today’s continued economic uncertainty, fleet leaders cited their most critical data needs as: visibility into maintenance costs (44%), fuel price trends (41%), and fleet utilization (36%).

Organizations that have embraced AI are already reaping the benefits with 40% of respondents using AI tools saying they’ve seen improvements of at least 50% in fuel usage, cost reduction, or distance traveled through smarter routing and optimization. However, 84% of transportation leaders think the industry is lagging behind in AI adoption and 36% only feel somewhat prepared to respond to ongoing supply chain disruptions and economic volatility. This signals a growing urgency for tools that not only provide data but translate it into tangible actions that drive outcomes, such as lowering operating costs and increasing efficiency.

“We’ve designed Catalyst AI with our customers’ needs in mind,” said Sherry Sanger, executive vice president of strategy and marketing at Penske Transportation Solutions. “Catalyst AI represents a strategic leap forward in how fleets use data. It’s not just about visibility—it’s about empowering smarter decisions across the entire network with technology that works in the real world.”

Since Catalyst AI launched in 2024, the platform has grown to support thousands of users, helping fleet professionals move from lagging metrics to leading decisions. The platform is now a foundational part of how teams across Penske’s network report, benchmark, and plan—across vehicles, locations, and systems.

In addition, Penske published findings from its national Settling In: A Consumer Moving Trends Survey, which examines consumer sentiment and trends around relocation.

Penske Truck Leasing Lights Up New Solar-Powered Facility Initiative/newsroom/penske-truck-leasing-lights-up-new-solar-powered-facility-initiative/Reading, Pa. – Nov. 18, 2024 - is lighting up a new solar-powered initiative seeking to boost efficiency, minimize energy costs, and reduce emissions initially at select , and truck locations in the U.S. with the installation and activation of its first-ever rooftop solar-powered systems.

The company’s new state-of-the-art facility in Channahon, Illinois, is now fully operational, and is predominantly powered by an onsite photovoltaic (PV) solar system, expected to generate roughly 80% of the building’s energy needs at 200 KW capacity. Any remaining required energy will be supplied by the local utility provider.

A Grand Rapids, Michigan, location will be active in the coming months and Penske’s Linden, New Jersey, location is expected to go online in 2025. These facilities are also new state-of-the-art locations.

The new facilities incorporating solar systems in Channahon, Illinois, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Linden, New Jersey, are part of the company’s LEED building program.

Under a power purchase agreement with , seven additional Penske facilities in California are expected to be retrofitted with new PV solar systems in the next year, which are expected to yield roughly 600 KW of renewable energy across all locations. These facilities are located in Fresno, Hayward, La Mirada, National City, Riverside, San Diego and San Leandro.

Penske is collaborating with San Francisco-based as its lead project consultant on this solar initiative.

“Our solar program is an important piece of our renewable energy strategy and ForeFront Power continues to be an outstanding partner in helping us bring these projects to fruition,” said Drew Cullen, senior vice president of fuels and facility services at “These investments will allow us to directly generate our own renewable energy to power our locations and continue to support our customers with sustainable solutions.”

On average, four solar panel-powered Penske Truck Leasing facilities will generate an estimated 1-million-kilowatt hours (kWh) of renewable energy annually and will result in an emissions avoidance of 442 metric tons (MT) CO2e, which is equal to powering nearly 90 homes for one year.

“The initiative to install solar systems at our locations is a part of our company’s LEED-certified facilities process,” explained Ivet Taneva, Penske vice president of environmental affairs. “Investing in solar has considerable economic impacts for our operations as well as the environmental benefits of further reducing emissions related to electricity use.”

Supply Chain Leaders Embracing Change Management to Address Impact of AI and Consumer Demand for Speed/newsroom/supply-chain-leaders-embracing-change-management-to-address-impact-of-ai-and-consumer-demand-for-speed/READING, Pa., Oct 1, 2024 – The 2025 Third-Party Logistics Study, spearheaded by Dr. C. John Langley of Penn State University and developed in collaboration with and , was unveiled today at the . In its 29th year, the study delves into the evolving dynamics of the supply chain under the theme Navigating Change, reflecting the current challenges within the industry.

The research highlights three pivotal areas: Change management in shipper (companies that manufacture goods or provide services) and 3PL (third-party logistics providers) relationships; artificial intelligence; and the importance of the direct-to-consumer experience.

The research provides a deeper dive into the current state of the 3PL market, and contemporary issues like nearshoring and trends in commercial real estate and supply chain labor are also contained within.

Some key learnings from the 2025 3PL Study include:

  • Change management is essential to keeping pace in the marketplace: Shippers (61%) and 3PLs (73%) both agree that supply chain change management is vital. Demand for change management is driven by customer experience, economic factors and technological advancements. Among survey respondents, 58% of shippers and 76% of 3PLs are currently employing a change management framework.
  • Artificial intelligence is a supply chain competitive advantage: Both shippers and 3PLs are in agreement that AI can be pivotal in automating data analysis, identifying patterns, solving problems and automating repetitive tasks. Results uncovered that 33% of shippers are seeking implementations related to supply planning and demand forecasting, while 19% of 3PLs reported planning implementation in this area. Also, 27% of shippers expressed an interest in transportation and route optimization technologies, while 22% of 3PLs noted they are planning to install these capabilities.
  • The continued e-commerce effect is shaping the direct-to-consumer experience: 48% of shippers and 53% of 3PLs reported that customers routinely expect deliveries in less than two days, and 27% of shippers and 26% of 3PLs noted that there are three-day or less delivery expectations. Shippers (44%) and 3PLs (38%) are willing to absorb a small percentage of the costs related to shipping speeds. Both shippers and 3PLs view delivery speed and further delivery visibility as strong areas of differentiation.

The study surveyed 3PL providers and users of 3PL services to understand the current state of 3PLs and how 3PL relationships are evolving with their customers. The research continues to capture and measure this evolving industry and document the transformation of the third-party logistics sector as new challenges and opportunities emerge. The 2025 study and past versions are available for download at .

“While users and providers of 3PL services continue to report successful relationships, they find themselves having to deal with an increasingly wide range of challenges,” said Dr. C. John Langley, Professor, Supply Chain & Information Systems, Penn State University. “While examples include economic concerns, geopolitical unrest, and changing markets for supply chain services, they also are taking advantage of change management processes to benefit from new and improved capabilities such as AI and direct-to-customer proficiencies.”

“This year’s study once again achieves success with providing readers with a nuanced understanding of the key issues facing our supply chains today,” said Ramu Pannala, Vice President of Supply Chain Technology, Penske Logistics. “Technology will drive the industry forward in many exciting ways.”

“This reinforces what we see in the market regarding businesses trying to manage through the volatility of day-to-day operations, relying on new capabilities like AI, and deeper partner relationships,” said Shanton Wilcox, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Consulting, NTT DATA. “All of these efforts and investments rely on change management to increase the likelihood of success.”

The 2024 CSCMP State of Logistics Report Shows How Logisticians are Adapting to Permanent Volatility in Their Supply Chains/newsroom/the-2024-cscmp-state-of-logistics-report/Supply chains are investing in technologies to accelerate resilience, agility and flexibility to better navigate current and future disruption.

LOMBARD, Ill., June 18, 2024 -- The 2024 State of Logistics Report was unveiled at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. today, with the 35th annual publication finding that U.S. supply chains pressured by global economic volatility -- including inflation, climate change and geopolitical conflicts -- are enhancing their capabilities by investing in supply chain technologies to accelerate resilience, agility and flexibility to navigate current and future disruption.

Produced annually for the (CSCMP) by global consulting firm and presented by leading third-party supply chain provider the annual report offers a snapshot of the American economy via the lens of the logistics sector and its role in overall supply chains.

The report is a comprehensive compilation of leading logistics intelligence from around the world and shines a spotlight on industry trends and key insights on ever evolving supply chains across a number of sectors.

The report found that uncertainty is now a near constant in the global economy, and that the smartest way to respond to steady times is to rekindle strategic projects and gather resources to improve resilience. The global economy is expected to experience sluggish 2.5% growth across 2024, which would represent the slowest half-decade of output in 30 years. Demand has not yet fully recovered, with myriad forces at play, and new growth engines will need traction before the tide turns.

Report highlights include:

  • A notable report statistic, U.S. business logistics costs, is $2.3 trillion, which translates to 8.7% of the national GDP.
  • There are multiple reasons why demand has not yet fully recovered, chief among them are simultaneous geopolitical conflicts around the world, climate change (which has affected shipping lanes), high inflation, high interest rates, and apart from the U.S., sluggish demand.
  • As a result of the economic headwinds and geopolitical instability, the continued fragmentation of global trade is complicating supply chain transactions. There were over 1,000 U.S. freight brokers that shuttered their doors since the 2023 report was released.
  • Some of the largest manufacturers and retailers are seeking to monetize their own logistics capabilities while viewing their supply chain successes as a service to market and profit from.
  • Carriers have been plagued by high operating costs, while lackluster demand, and the capacity glut, have made it hard for them to charge the kinds of rates that would allow them to sustain rates and protect their margins.
  • Third-party logistics providers continue to work through significant challenges right now, which includes high operating and insurance costs, low freight rates, and excess capacity. Will this lead to further industry consolidation?
  • Investments in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, end-to-end visibility, and advanced automation are expected to drive competitive advantage and greater resilience to future disruption in the logistics sector.
  • Major global corporations have adopted rigorous environmental goals. Further government funding programs have been launched to encourage decarbonization initiatives, which indicate progress in both the public and private sector, toward higher levels of sustainability.
