Successfully competing in the red-hotmarket takes service, dedication and great people to make it happen. Penske Used Trucks has been gradually growing its national call center team to help meet the uptick in demand for used trucks.
Vicki Nitti (photo on right) makes a point of putting herself in the customer鈥檚 shoes when searching for the perfect Penske used truck. 鈥淓ach customer is a priority for me,鈥� stated Nitti, a sales representative. 鈥淚 take the time to find the exact match. It is important to make the customer feel comfortable by consistently following up to establish relationships throughout the sales process.鈥�
She鈥檚 among a dedicated group of Penske associates that support the used truck call center based at the company鈥檚 Reading, Pa. headquarters.
This particular call center supports Penske Used Trucks, which is a unit of that routinely sells more than 20,000 used commercial trucks annually.
The range from heavy-duty tractors, straight trucks, reefers, to panel vans and specialized equipment like lift-trucks or bucket-trucks.
Stephen Belz, another Penske call center sales rep, sold four low-mileage daycab trucks earlier this year to a small Midwest-based logistics company sight unseen, not uncommon for 黑料社
鈥淚t was important for me to establish a relationship with the customer and to properly assess his needs, and follow up,鈥� explained Belz. The customer was so happy with his initial buy; he purchased five more trucks this past spring, and has his eye on several more vehicles for use in the Northeast corridor.
鈥淲hen a customer is buying a $40,000 used tractor, they need to be confident in Penske vehicles,鈥� said sales rep Rick Francis.
Francis recently sold six, 16-foot trucks to a suburban Philadelphia bakery; a long-time truck rental customer, and a strong believer in the quality of a Penske truck. They purchased an additional six trucks in a four month span.
鈥淲e look at each transaction as an opportunity to build and maintain a long-term relationship with the customer,鈥� Belz stated.
As part of each used truck sale emanating from the call center, supervisor Cilia Torres and her team coordinate with several corporate departments, and the local district where the truck is located, to ensure that the sale runs smoothly.
鈥淲e work hard to streamline the process for the customer,鈥� Torres explained. 鈥淭he customer is our No. 1 priority. It is important that we work diligently to ensure that we exceed our customer鈥檚 expectations by following through with updates on truck preparedness.鈥�

Manpower recently issued its quarterly Employment Outlook Survey and it reported the most optimistic hiring expectations in more than two years. According to , U.S. employers anticipate small staffing gains for Q1 2011. Their outlook for Q1 2011 is +9 percent, up from +5 percent during the same period last year and +5 percent during Q4 2010.
This slowly improving employment outlook was further highlighted by last week鈥檚 ADP report on U.S. private sector employment, which showed an unanticipated increase. Last Friday, a very slight drop in the overall unemployment rate was also reported by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reading, Pa., headquartered and Penske Logistics have an upbeat outlook on 2011 hiring citing improving business conditions within their North American operations.
"The good news for job hunters is we are hiring again at a moderate pace across North America,鈥� said Ken Hurley, senior vice president, human resources for Penske Truck Leasing. 鈥淧enske offers good paying jobs with benefits within our truck leasing, truck rental and logistics operations. We anticipate hiring approximately 2,500 associates across North America in 2011 for Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Logistics combined. This is up about 15 percent compared with 2010.鈥�
Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Logistics have needs for a variety of positions ranging from experienced diesel engine and truck maintenance technicians, truck fuel island attendants, truck hikers, , and commercial (CDL) truck drivers with excellent driving records. Corporate openings in finance, IT, vehicle supply and customer service are also anticipated.
