Over the last several years, approximately 9% of Penske’s annual new hires have been veterans. The company currently employs more than 3,000 individuals who self-identify as veterans – a figure that has more than doubled since 2019.

Penske dedicates several tools and programs to support the hiring of military veterans, including a formal military driver apprenticeship program and a fellowship program for logistics operations managers. You struggle to get to the top. After you finally make it over the wall, you immediately drop to all fours and alligator crawl through mushy, cold mud, as the mud’s powerful suction slows you down.
After rushing from obstacle to obstacle, you can feel the aches and pains throughout your body. Completely covered in mud, you notice one more thing separating you from the finish line and from catching your breath: You have to carry heavy tree logs across a sun-beaming field.
Another thing that made this challenge unique was that each person couldn’t conquer an obstacle on their own. All the obstacles were designed to be conquered by a team.
